Two years ago I decided to get my very first tattoo, I was playing around with this idea a while, but I wanted to get a tattoo that means a lot to me and won’t loose it’s meaning after some years and as I’m super interesed in the ancient egypt my decision turned out to be the eye of horus.

Now the eye of horus is a symbol for great healing and protective powers, large numbers of mummies had the eye of horus placed among their wrappings to protect the „person“ in life and death. As you can possibly guess, Horus symbolized the good and the light, while his brother Seth represented the evil and the darkness.
Enough of the history lesson, it was very important to me that my tattoo is placed somewhere I could hide it easily if I had to (job, formal occasions etc.), but always visible for me, so I chose my left wrist. Why I chose my left wrist? Many reasons:
- I’m left-handed
- it’s closer to my heart
- and Horus lost his left eye
Vor zwei Jahren habe ich beschlossen mir mein allererstes Tattoo stechen zu lassen, ich habe mit dem Gedanken schon einige Zeit gespielt, wollte aber wirklich sicher gehen, dass ich mir ein Tattoo machen lasse welches mir etwas bedeutet und das auch nach ein paar Jahren nicht an Bedeutung verliert und da ich wahnsinnig an dem Alten Ägypten interessiert bin, habe ich mich für das Horusauge entschieden.

Nun ist das Horusauge ein Symbol von Heilung und schützenden Kräften, viele Mumien wurde das Horusauge zwischen den Verbänden platziert um die „Person“ sowohl im Leben, als auch im Tod zu schützen. Wie ihr euch denken könnt, symbolisierte Horus das Gute und das Licht, während sein Bruder Seth das Böse und die Dunkelheit repräsentierte.
Genug mit der Geschichtsstunde, für mich war es sehr wichtig, dass mein Tattoo an einer Stelle ist die ich leicht verstecken kann falls es nötig sein sollte (Job, formelle Anlässe etc.), aber sie sollte für mich immer sichtbar sein, also habe ich mich für mein linkes Handgelenk entschieden. Warum ich mein linkes Handgelenk genommen habe? Mehrere Gründe:
- ich bin Linkshänderin
- es ist meinem Herzen näher
- Horus verlor sein linkes Auge
